Cinnabar

Woodside, California

Highly constrained, this four-acre, softly sloping, east-facing infill parcel came with a bisecting community trail, seasonal creek, seismic fault line and several heritage oak trees. The built landscape form emerges from the hillside and cantilevers downhill. The hillside is half forested with a sloping meadow open to the San Francisco Bay. Privacy to the trail and views to the water shaped low-slung rectangular forms deployed parallel to the slope that emerge from the forest and hillside. Weathering steel rainscreens provide fire resistance and zero maintenance characteristics. The built form becomes a part of the landscape and allows a focus to the bay to remain and dominate the scene and view.
